Links: Cover Songs, Cover Models, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Links!

I very much enjoyed the collective snarking in the comments last week. I love it when a community comes together!

For those in the States, I hope you had a pleasant Labor Day weekend. For us, it was mostly a weekend of rotting, jut hanging and vegging out at home. How did you spend your weekend?

We’re starting to feel a hint of fall in New England and I am so pumped!

Connecticut is getting a romance bookstore! You can support the opening of Montgomery & Taggert Bookshop (love the name) through IndieGoGo. They are nearly halfway to their goal with a month left.

SBTB Reader Lisa visited the store after its soft opening and sent some pictures:

I went this morning, a few days after their soft opening, and it was a great experience. The owners were super nice, the shop super cute, and the selection super eclectic.

I’m attaching some of the photos that I took during my visit. The little raven is their mascot, the privilege of naming him was one of the IndieGoGo perks.

A banner on a fence with a beige rectangle parchment, the store's name of Montgomery & Taggert, and a raven perched on a stack of books

A book display in a small metal rack on a table. There's a small chalkboard welcoming shoppers to the soft opening of the store

A wooden gate opens to a romantic foliage archway with flower bushes on each side.

This link came from Kim. Thanks, Kim! People interviewed a cover model, who has appeared on over 600 covers. Sarah and I talked about this in our recent RT Rewind taping that hasn’t aired yet – the celebrity of cover models and how that’s been affected with the rise in illustrated covers.

Sarah shared this on our Slack about a BookTok influencer scamming indie authors. Yikes!

I love cover songs and I was bereft when the AV Club‘s Undercover series ended seven years ago. Bands would come in and choose from a list of songs to cover. Once it’s selected, though, it is crossed out and future artists aren’t allowed to pick it.

Well it has returned! And of course, the new season kicked off with GWAR doing a cover of “I Just Ken” from the Barbie movie. There are currently three covers out.

One of my favorite covers from the series as a whole is We Might Be Giants’ rendition of “Bills, Bills, Bills” by Destiny’s Child.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
